You are invited to submit a proposal for a workshop at
the 16th Annual NECGT.
Proposals should relate to the theme of “Connections and New
Directions”. Through this theme, we are seeking innovative programming
that will help forward the mission to grow gifted teaching and
learning, guidance, parenting, advocacy, and leadership. We expect
proposals to reflect the vital links between current thinking
on gifted learner needs, and how all learning communities can
promote new directions that will advance connective thinking and
assure the recognition and support of our gifted youth—in our
communities, across the nation, and throughout the world. To exemplify
the “Connections” theme, the Connecticut Association for the Gifted
is partnering with SENG to sponsor this exciting event. We anticipate
500 educators, parents and leaders from New England and the rest
of the country to attend.
Conference Theme and Strands
“Connections and New Directions” highlights the relationships between
global interdependence, global economics, and environmental stewardship.
It is also vital that the field of Gifted Education connect with
others outside the field: business and industry leaders, forward-thinking
educators, policy makers, and all those with the potential to affect
positive change. Our youth will inherit a world that is in need
of their energy and service to a greater degree than ever before,
and the recognition and preparation of our gifted children is critical.
We would like participants to leave this conference with a renewed
vigor, new tools, strategies, and information that they will be
excited to put into action, with lasting results. Programs that
help constituents to discover new strategies to use, build and evaluate
the quality of a program to better serve gifted students, or ways
to tackle on-going, unresolved issues head-on, are welcomed! In
other words, your proposal should reflect both practical and creative
avenues to motivate, stimulate and inspire participants!
As you will note on the RFP form, there are a wide
range of strand avenues for your proposal to link into. Please check
off all key areas that your program will be targeting. We look forward
to an especially exciting, well-attended conference in 2010!
Proposal Preparation
1. All sessions are limited to one primary presenter and a maximum
of 2 secondary presenters.
2. Consider carefully the topic for your presentation. Make sure
that it aligns with the conference theme and addresses the learning
needs of at least one constituency group.
3. Make sure the session title clearly describes what the session
is about and is no more than 8 words.
4. Use active verbs to explain what will occur in the session, e.g.,
discuss, explore, examine, and analyze.
5. Write in complete sentences.
Proposal Review
All proposals will be reviewed and rated by at least 2-3 readers.
Readers will use the following key features on a rubric to assess
the quality of each proposal: (1) alignment with conference theme
and strands, (2) alignment with best-practices and effective results,
(3) clarity of learning outcomes for participants, (4) potential
of the session to stimulate conference attendance, and (5) usability
of presentation techniques.
